Worship service on Pentecost Sunday

On Pentecost Sunday, June 5, 2022, the annual service of the International Castle Church Community took place. The sermon was given by Pastor Stefan Günther, a lecturer at the Evangelical Preachers' Seminary in Wittenberg.

ICCC service on Pentecost Sunday 2022

In the fall of 2022, the Evangelische Predigerseminar in Wittenberg received two portraits of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon for presentation in the exhibition at the visitor center in the castle church ensemble. The paintings come from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder, it is assumed that his son Hans was the painter, from the year 1532. The portrait of Melanchthon is dated with this year. The double portraits are painted on linden wood and measure 19.8 x 14.2 cm. The owner of the pictures is the UEK (Union of Evangelical Churches), which made the portraits available as a permanent loan.

Useful information

In 2023 we are planning an international conference together with the Evangelical Academy, the Evangelical Preacher Seminar, the EKD and other partners. This conference begins with the Pentecost service on May 29, 2023 at 5 p.m. in the Castle Church and ends on May 31, 2023. It will include a mix of educational and tourism offerings.

Experience history

For many people all over the world, the Castle Church in Wittenberg is an important symbol of the beginnings of the Lutheran Reformation and thus of new beginnings in church and society. The "fathers" of the Reformation, Luther and Melanchthon, are buried here. Here are her statues together with those of her friends and companions.
